Marketing, according to the American Marketing Association, is a set of "the activities, strategies, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large."

Together, Susan and Elinor have spent more than a half century in the mediation industry.  During the last seventeen years they have trained more than 13,000 professionals in the mediation process.  As they see it, tremendous brain power and effort has been devoted to the process and profession.  But, ultimately when we compare mediation to other things that have been around since the mid-1970s we are disappointed.  “Why haven't we come further?”  “Why has’t mediation made it into the “cultural mind?”  "Why are so few mediators able to build viable practices?"  While there are many political and cultural reasons for this failure it seems the only remedy is better MARKETING – for each of us individually as well as a united professional group.


Mediator marketing is unique.  

As mediators we encounter many of the same marketing challenges other professionals face with one big difference.  The mediator needs two people, who are already in disagreement - to agree to his/her selection.  One way we can overcome this obstacle is to increase our recognition – both face recognition and name recognition.  So, first and foremost this workshop will focus on the strategies that will make you more easily recognized and remembered.  



Additionally, the objective of this workshop is to help you: 

  • Clarify your marketing niche
  • Create an effective 1-minute “elevator” introduction that conveys to the listener what you (and only you) can do for them
  • Prepare to create a 2-minute video establishing your expert status and telling the world what you can do for them
  • Create a 45-minute signature speech that you are ready to give anywhere/anytime
  • Design a marketing plan that includes a budget as well as the actions you will take to promote your mediation business (using PR, networking, social media, and advertising strategies)


We are living in an environment saturated with rapidly evolving high-tech and other marketing options.  

Bombarded by options, it is difficult to know which techniques are best to utilize in your marketing plan.  We will discuss strategies that will work best for novice practitioners and others that will work best only if you are seasoned and already possess a certain level of name recognition.
